I was born in Oklahoma (cowboy boots must be in my genes), but shortly after that my Mom moved back to Michigan to be closer to her family. My Mom started dating an old boyfriend, Jerry Austin. Soon after rekindling their relationship, my Mom & Dad got married. Jerry adopted my brother and I, and he has been DAD ever since. Saline has always been my home and the roots run deep. I graduated from Saline High School in 1990, at that time the high school was what is now the middle school. A lot has changed over the years, but we are ALL still HORNETS!
I never moved far from Saline but after my wife, Renee, and I started a family, we moved back to Saline. We have two children; Breana, who graduated from Saline in 2022, and Bradley who will be starting his junior year at Saline High School this fall. We knew this is where we wanted to raise our kids and the school system we wanted them to attend.
Out of high school a friend and I started A&H Lawn Service, Inc., to earn money for college. Hard work and perseverance did more than just provide some money for college, it became a career. I have been the President & Co-Owner since 1991 and genuinely enjoy being an active part of this wonderful city.
I'm proud of this community, I'm proud to call Saline my home, and I'm proud to have two children go through this district. I have been a regularly active member of our community through our business and through our school district. I was a Saline School Board Member from 2015-2020, serving as Secretary, Vice-President, & President over those years. Through my company, I am active with the Foundation of Saline Area Schools, the Saline Area Social Services, Chad Tough Organization and many others. Our company donates flowers along Michigan Ave. each spring, to help bring a pop of color for all to enjoy while driving through town. A few years back I helped start up a National Day of Prayer event in Saline and this has now been going strong for the past four years.
I live by the motto from a series Pastor Ken Gilmore did years ago at Keystone Church. The series was Love Where You Live! It changed my life, and refocused my outlook on using my Time, Treasures, and Talents not for myself but for others.
